The House of Winslow, Books 11-15 Boxed Set; Union Belle, Final Adversary, Crossed Sabres...
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (April, 1994)
Author: Gilbert Morris
Average review score:

Morris's continued success!
Gilbert Morris perservers with this third set of books in this series. He takes us from the traumatic Civil War to the Wild West, and tells of the generation after Sky.

This set of books spans from 1870-1900.

"The Union Belle" tells of Sky's son Mark, who's been everything from Confederate officer to Mexican jailbird as he follows the Union Pacific Railroad. He escapes a close scrape in Texas with his life, but not without leaving his heart to the woman who helped him.

"The Final Adversary" skips ahead to Mark's children. Barney, the oldest, feels he could never measure up to the expectations of his father as his younger brother did. However, he's the talk of New York in 1894 as a prizefighter, but soon finds himself in the dregs of Sing Sing on trumped-up charges. After a lawful escape, he finds God and sets his sights on Africa. Morris does a superb job of bringing the African mystique to life. He does justice to the superstitions that rule their world, as well as the realities of malaria for the missionaries.

With "The Crossed Sabres", it's back to Sky's family. Tom Winslow returns from the war to find his wife has forsaken him. After finding her near death in her home state, he vows never to forgive the person responsible--his ex-best friend, Spencer Grayson. Tom raises his daughter, Laurie, in the wilds of Indian territory, much to the chagrin of his family. Faith Jamison left her home to minister to the Indians, and will stop at nothing to accomplish her goal; and Tom runs into an old enemy as he watches Custer's war with the savages.

"The Valiant Gunman" is an appropriate title for Dan Winslow. He and an old war buddy, Logan Mann, dream of starting their own ranch out west. Dan goes to find Logan's long lost daughter as he treks across Texas to Wyoming. Once there, he finds a ruthless cattle baron who will stop at nothing to monopolize the grazing lands--and he finds that he has been elected to stop the Arrow.

"The Gallant Outlaw" moves across Winslow lines to Zach Winslow's family. Betsy Winslow has long envied the attention men gave her sister. She runs off with the first man who showers her with attention--and he turns out to be a ruthless outlaw who takes her into the depths of Oklahoma Indian Territory. It's up to her older sister, Lanie, to find Betsy--and bring her out alive.

Houses and Homes

Authors: Ann Morris, Ken Heyman, and Ken Hayman
Average review score:

Informative and Stimulating!
Houses and Homes is a great book to stimulate conversation for young beginning readers! The photos alone are worth a thousand words. I used this book as a lead in for a discussion with first graders about different types of homes around the world. The text is simple enough that they'll read it unassisted over and over. The index in the back of the book, along with a world map, is very informative! It states the specific country where each photo was taken and gives detailed information on the uses of the types of homes shown. The descriptions also include information on the relationships between homes, cultures, and climates around the world. My 5 year old nephew, a beginning reader, would not put the book down. If he wasn't actually reading the book, he was spending time looking at the real-life photos!

Hypnosis With Friends and Lovers
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins (paper) (February, 1979)
Authors: Freda. Morris and Fred Morris
Average review score:

Learn to hypnotize yourself with the help of a friend
Freda Morris writes a book to demystify hypnosis and make it available to everyone. She has many years of experience as an educator in the field of hypnosis and knows how to make is simple and easy to follow. She is down-to-earth, unpretentious and fun. She is teaching what she calls assisted self-hypnosis. By working with a friend, she guides the reader through a process to allow them to hypnotize each other with the goal of becoming skilled in self-hypnosis. The hypnotee is ultimately in charge of each session. She applies hypnosis to subjects that include improving learning skills, better interpersonal relationships, enhancement of lovemaking, goal setting, past life regression, accessing spiritual guidance and more. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who wants to learn hypnosis. However, the program that is outlined involves a committment in time and regular practice. The results will be there if the suggestions are followed as directed.(I have only read this book so far, but not done the program. I did read her other book called Self-Hypnosis in 48 Hours. I was successful in hypnotizing myself, so I have faith in her methods. That was also a fun book as well)

You won't be able to put this down
This is quite possibly the most moving and yet troubling book I have ever read. I wish it were required reading in high school. The book addresses an issue of which everyone in this country should be aware.
